Professor of Pottery, COOL leader Maxine Toya of Jemez Pueblo
The NABS class is in full swing, with 23 participants learning about science through pottery making. We haven't gotten our hands too dirty yet, but Dr. Dewey Moore has taught us about the periodic table and has been using hands-on approaches to teach the geography of where clay comes from. Maxine Toya helped us to understand the nuances of Pueblo clay collection. Please check out the songs that Dr. Jesús Martinez has been teaching us. These songs will help students (and teachers!) to understand the Periodic Table, the relationship Atoms, Molecules, and Cells have to each other.
There are also two good songs for helping students to do their science fair projects. One song explains the Process for Science Projects in "kid-friendly" language. The other songs tells why Models are important. Dr. Martinez has shared these songs with us so that CENAC teachers can add to their multiple intelligences approach to teaching, and we are very grateful to him!
