“Transition Through Technology ” SummaryThe Coalition of Educators for Native American Children (CENAC) in partnership with the New Mexico Tribal Coalition (NMTC), Enhancing Education through Technology (Ed Tech), and Cultivating Our Own to Lead (COOL), hosted its eleventh school reform rally on January 30, 2004. The theme for this rally was “Technology through Transition,” with a strong focus on using technology to enhance education and working together to provide the most comprehensive education for students kindergarten through 12 th grades. The Winter Rally 2004 was held at Santa Fe Indian School (SFIS), with 363 attendees from the Northern and Southern Pueblos Agencies’ schools, Pueblo Headstart Programs, Pueblo Departments of Education, and other individuals from Pueblo Communities. SFIS was selected as the site for this technology-focused professional development since it was the only location with enough computer labs to accommodate 300+ people. The online registration process, a first with the CENAC schools, helped Rally Planners prepare for the events and also encouraged attendees to challenge themselves with technology, which can be used to enhance their professional lives. A wonderful addition to this year’s Rally were the student presentations on technology from three of the CENAC schools: San Felipe Pueblo Elementary School, Santa Clara Day School, and Santa Fe Indian School (Community Based Education Model program). The exciting Power Point presentations, all student-led, showcased how technology is being used at each of their schools. Rally attendees were impressed with what is happening in those schools and how well the students articulated their presentations. Following the general session, two 90-minute technology-focused sessions followed. The various session topics, which were initially identified by the CENAC Tech Committee and Rally Planning Committee, and then voted upon by most CENAC Staff members, included everything from Digital Camera Techniques to Surfing the Internet to Using Hand-held Devises. Popular sessions included the following:
